We return to the world of Lieutenant Eve Dallas and the NYPSD. Leanore Bastwick (originally from Rapture) is discovered dead in her home. Above her bed, a message has been left for Eve from her "one true friend." This "friend" is meting out the "justice" that Eve cannot due to her badge, because Bastwick represented Jess Barrow. Left with no clue to the killer's identity, they begin to go through the fan mail that Eve receives. Shortly after the investigation begins, Ledo (from Conspiracy) is stabbed to death with his pool cue. It is becoming clear that this killer is fixed on Eve.This story has just put itself in my top five In Death novels. The way this novel describes how what one person may see as love, others may view as obsession, works on so many levels for me.As always, great job, J.D.! I can't wait for the next installment! This is the 40th book in the series about Lt Eve Dallas and her gorgeous, extremely rich husband Roarke. I have read all the books in this series and while I have really enjoyed the series the last couple of books have all started to sound about the same. The bad guy changes and why they committed the murder but nothing else really does. The characters just aren't growing anymore. Eve, Roark, Peabody, McNab, Mira, Nadine, Feeney, Mavis, Leonardo are all in this book but nothing really happens. No growth, no set-backs, just a crime to be solved. One of the reasons I really love this series is all the characters that you have gotten to know. In this book no new characters were added and nothing changed for the characters in the book. There was an opportunity to have a devastating change and yes it would have been hard to read about but it would have meant the characters would face an emotional challenge and without that it's just starting to get dare I say boring. In this story Eve is trying to find a psychotic stalker who is killing people to prove his/her true friendship to Eve. There is a lot of repeating information about characters that we have read in every previous book. Something has to change with the characters lives, whether it's good or bad but they can't just stay the same and have the series remain interesting. I really hope something changes in the next book because I have enjoyed this series.
